The Flashing Canines offer a variety of classes ranging from Puppy Obedience through the various levels of Agility!! If you would like more information or if you want to register for one of our classes, please call (403) 527-2975.

PUPPY

Puppy - Level 1 - Runs 7 weeks
Puppies up to 6 months old and MUST have their 2nd set of vaccinations prior to this class.
The focus of this class is to teach owners how to train their puppy using motivational training
methods that are fun for both owner and dog. Includes basic obedience commands as well as
discussions on understanding dog behaviour, dealing with common problems, gaining your dog's respect and being a responsible dog owner. A great way to socialize your puppy!

Puppy - Level 2 - Runs 7 Weeks
Puppies 6 months to 1 year.     Prerequisite: Puppy Obedience Level 1 or equivalent.
Teach your puppy through play! Fun, games and toys are used to motivate your dog to learn
and improve their focus and attention. Includes an introduction to "modified" agility equipment
to instil confidence in your puppy and build a bond between owner and dog. Some basic handling techniques are also introduced.

AGILITY

Intro to Agility - Runs 6 Weeks
Dogs at Least 1 year old     Prerequisite: Basic Obedience Commands.
Welcome to the sport of agility!
You and your dog will learn how to safely navigate each piece of agility equipment. You will also learn the importance of good body language and improve the communication between you and your dog. At the end of this class you will have a good understanding of agility and what's involved.

Level 1 Agility - Runs 8 Weeks
Dogs at least 1 year old     Prerequisite: Puppy 2 or Introduction to Agility
In this class you and your dog will continue training, aiming for a good solid performance on each piece of equipment. You will begin executing simple sequences using various pieces of equipment. You will also be introduced to contact methods and weave poles.

Level 2 Agility - Runs 8 Weeks
Prerequisite: Level 1 Agility (Contacts & Weave Poles would be an asset)
You will begin laying the foundation for excellent handling skills and body language. Directional signals and solid start
line performance are included in this class. The games and levels of agility competition will be explained with the opportunity
to try some small courses.

Level 3 Agility
Prerequisite: Control of dog off leash, jumps and tunnels.
Students learn the different manoeuvres necessary to successfully deal with any handling challenges present in an agility course.
You will also learn to change your dog’s focus from the obstacles to you and back again.

Level 4 Agility
Prerequisite: Level 3 Agility
This class is an opportunity to put into practice the handling skills learned in Level 3. Students will learn to successfully
“read” an agility course and choose the handling options that best suit them and their dog.

Recreational Agility
Prerequisite: Level 1 Agility
Agility Just for Fun!! This class gives you the opportunity to run a variety of courses with your dog just for the fun of it.
There is always an instructor present to assist you and ensure the safety of your dog.

Distance
Prerequisite: Control of dog off leash.
This class teaches the student to work their dog from a distance using directional control and other basic commands.
Exercises will be set up to practice each skill independently followed by sequences that incorporate a variety of distance skills.

Contacts & Weaves

Getting a dog to hit the “yellow” on a contact obstacle can be a source of much frustration!! Students will learn a method to
ensure their dog hits the contact zone safely and consistently. This class also focuses on having independent weave pole
performance with reliable entries from any angle or distance.

**NEW**
Agility Obedience

In this class you and your dog will learn or improve basic obedience commands while on and off leash. You will also learn to
apply these skills to a limited amount of obstacles to prepare you for further agility training. Dogs with no previous agility
experience are also welcome to attend.

Focus & Control

Stressful situations can turn some dogs into uncontrollable masses of barking fur!! This class is designed to teach dogs with “issues” to relax and focus. The result is a more confident dog that is reliable on or off leash.
